My Little Legs

This is how you fit 2 humans and 2 large dogs on 1 very small couch.
It was Purple who had faith that it could be done,
she always manages to see space where no one else can.

Dots

Today during story time at the library,
the kids read a book about dots,
which inspired this art project: dots on dot.
Orin was very proud of his artwork.

The Purple House

I forgot to tell you that we moved.
We now live in "the purple house."
Here it is from the front.
More pictures to come.

Geeks

Today was part one of our Lichen Adventure.
My friend Jon has an assignment for his Biology class
to investigate different kinds of lichens.
Candace and I will use any excuse to go lichen hunting,
so after he told us of the assignment, we decided to join in the fun.
Next weekend we are heading to a new location in hot pursuit of some
sexy, brightly colored lichens.
Maybe I will post some pictures of our findings
(if you are lucky).

Cold

The fact that my fingers look paper white in this picture
is not related in any way to the flash of the camera...
my fingers were actually that white.
Why do my fingers turn paper white?
I get cold.
The funny part was I think it was 45 degrees out and sunny today.
You would think my fingers would hold out for a legitimately cold day,
but no.

Candy Cane Doll

Baba just sent us this candy cane doll per Orin's request
after he decided that his Blue Man needed a buddy.
Orin and Blue Man met "Dolly" over Christmas at Baba's house
and played together during our stay,
but when we left, Dolly stayed at Baba's.
About a week ago, Orin very politely asked Baba
to send him Dolly and today the 3-some was reunited.
Who said candy canes are only for Christmas?

State of the Union

Although I am not sure Orin understood much from the
State of the Union Address, he did enjoy the clapping part.
And he said of Obama,
"I like 'um... I like O-bam-wa..."
What can I say, the kid has good taste.

It's Spring!!!

First blooming crocuses sighted on Jan 20th!
This is why I love this city.

Scooter Master

It is uncanny how quickly Orin learns to ride anything with wheels...
He has already mastered turning and breaking on his scooter.
I spend a lot of time jogging around our neighborhood after him.

No more monkies jumping on the bed...

Pink

It is just the coolest color.
Ask any two-year-old.

Council Crest

This is from a hike Jess and I did up to Council Crest.
Council Crest is the highest point in Portland
and boasts some amazing views.
However, being the consistently disorganized person that I am,
I forgot my camera, so I took this shot in the parking lot.

Bath Man

Although Orin likes to take bathes, he is not the biggest fan
of getting his hair washed.
I am actually understating that big time.
He HATES having his hair washed
which is why I was shocked and delighted when Casey
somehow managed to convince him that it was time for the big wash.

Blue Man

Occasionally, Orin sets up little scenes around the house.
They could be a train of cars, motorcycles, dirtbikes, and other figures,
bunnies tucked into bed, books stacked end to end,
or, in this case, Blue Man with his friends "just hanging out."
The scenes are a refreshing break from the chaotic mess of toys that
are scattered around the house on any given afternoon.

I asked Orin if he wanted to take the picture of the day,
and he chose to photograph his latest installment.

Cooking

Tonight we have some friends coming over to have our favorite
seven layer dip dinner.
Yummy!

Wet Winters

Yesterday, despite the fact that it was pouring
Orin and I headed out to the Gorge for a hike.
For some reason, no matter what the weather is
it is always wonderful to be in the woods.

Baby Sister

Orin has been obsessed with siblings lately.
The other day, he informed me that this was his baby sister.
Her name is mouse (despite the fact that she is a rabbit).
I was allowed to hold her, but only for a moment.

Lounging

Lazy afternoons...

A Fireman!

I didn't have to think for a moment about what picture
I would post for today.
I snapped this shot right after Orin declared that he was
a fireman in his "firetruck legs"and "fireman hat."
I am so glad that we are still in the stage where
a red mesh bag can substitute in a flash for a fireman helmet.

Dryer Baby

Whenever I say "It's time for bed"
Orin interprets it to mean
"Go find a hiding place."
He was particularly proud of this one.

Christmas at Nana's House

Almost nothing can stop two crazy two-year-olds
in control of a Powerwheel.
Except, of course, a watchful uncle, an unfortunate apple tree,
and, eventually, a dead battery.

Video for the Big Jump

Sorry I didn't have the camera oriented the right way,
but feel free to tilt your head to the side if you feel a burning urge.

The Big Jump

I am not going to go into details about why, exactly,
Orin was jumping off the entertainment center.
But I am going to post the video of this tomorrow
so you get the full show.
It's worth it.

Tryon Creek

I took this one after a hike in Tryon Creek State Park.
We are trying to get Orin in shape for his big three mile 3rd birthday...
more on that later.

The Fifth...

Me and my year-round dinosaur.
Who says you should wait for Halloween?

Tree of Life

Today we rearranged all of our major decorations to incorporate
the amazing silk wall hanging my sister gave me for Christmas.
It was hand woven in Thailand and was called the Tree of Life.
It is, quite possibly, the most beautiful thing ever.

Plane Rides

On the flight back from Massachusetts, Orin was taking some pictures
when he was noticed by the stewardess.
She promptly asked him for the camera, grabbed his cheeks,
and snapped this shot.

Baba and Grumpa's House

Thanks for everything!
We will miss you guys!

Happy New Year at the Cape!

So I have decided to start blogging again,
but this time it is going to be a little different.
I am going to try to take one picture each day
and post each as an individual entry.
Hopefully I will be better at this new strategy
than I have been at posting the old way.
And I am sorry to anyone who cares for not documenting
the last six months of Orin's life on the blog.

Here is today's photo:

I took this on Cape Cod after Casey caught his first Atlantic salmon.
Although the boys were really happy about getting to touch the fish,
the fish did not seem to share their enthusiasm
and promptly peed all over Orin's sweater.
Seeing a fish pee had to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me,
so I thought it better be documented
(along with the boys fishing trip and our trip to the Cape, of course)
