A Dog Day

Today we decided to indulge our four-legged friends in an all-out dog beach day. This was not actually the original plan, but everything ended up working out well in the end.

The original plan was to go to Fort Meyers Beach, but when we got there we found that it was completely overrun by tourists. Not to mention they wanted us to pay to park, pay to get onto the beach, and Strictly No Critters Allowed. Major bummer.

So we kept driving  looking for other options.

Just as we were about to give up, we passed the Bonita Beach Dog Park. No fees, all dogs, no tourists, and a beautiful beach. What luck!

We stayed there for most of the afternoon while Purple ran around and played with the other dogs, Atlas chased his tennis ball, and Egg did what Egg does best.... swim nonstop. He also inspired me (by way of violent tugging) to get a little wet. After a while, even Casey waded in. The water was warm and beautiful.

After we had enough of dog-heaven, we waited by the van while the dogs dried off and Egg threw up all of the salt water that he had ingested. For those of you that don't know, Egg is a very enthusiastic swimmer (bordering on crazy) and likes to splash and bite the water as he swims. Because of this, he normally emerges with a stomach the size of a bowling ball. Normally I make him swim with a muzzle to minimize the intake, but today I forgot. When combined with salt water, the over-drinking problem was only intensified. So we ended up with nice pile of that mornings dog food and a very sad Egg.

But I think he enjoyed himself enough to make it worth it.

We certainly did.

So much so that we decided to go out to dinner to celebrate our wonderful day in the sun. The meal justified its own blog.
